This IDC PeerScape explores the experiences that some organizations have had with cloud computing and what key performance indicators or metrics they use to ensure their cloud-based practices are smart ones.
"Organizations may be tempted to invest in cloud computing in order to gain flexibility, scalability, and even security," says David Weldon, adjunct research advisor with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "They may assume that a cloud service provider will take care of everything and operational costs will be reduced in the process. But achieving new efficiencies and cost savings will largely depend on the firm's practices for creating, storing, and moving data in the first place and understanding how to measure ROI effectively."
