Abstract

This IDC PeerScape explores how security professionals have solved common vulnerability management challenges, along with their important learnings.

“The IT landscape is growing and evolving, and the methods and tooling used to identify vulnerabilities need to evolve too. The identification of vulnerabilities is just one part of the overall vulnerability management process. Another part is the remediation of vulnerabilities, which is challenging due to the cooperation needed among the various teams involved and the time and resources needed (often instead of other activities serving the business),” says Nick Kirtley, adjunct research advisor, IT Executive Programs (IEP), IDC. “It is critical that vulnerabilities are managed effectively to shut off avenues of attack to those who want to do harm to the business. Just one unpatched or vulnerable system could be the difference between a successful or foiled attack.”
