Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Survey Spotlight highlights the results of IDC's 2023 CIO Sentiment Survey, which found that most CIOs are continuing to hire IT staff, despite difficult economic conditions. Over two-thirds of CIOs continue to hire critical IT talent, with 25% of CIOs accelerating hiring. Interestingly, organizations with decreasing revenue show the strongest intent to continue hiring critical IT talent.

Demographic trends in North America and Europe and decreasing enrollment in IT-related college and university programs provide some explanation for the CIO plans. Talent shortages in IT will continue to be a top issue as organizations continue to rely on CIOs to deliver enterprise digital transformation to remain competitive.
