This IDC Perspective discusses the renewed significance of data security for generative AI (GenAI) initiatives. Generative AI offers clear benefits to executives, data managers, and lines of business, helping rapidly extract value from digital data. Existing data security and privacy concerns will only get harder to address, and new risks are being realized. Leaning into the traditional data security technologies and reapplying them for generative AI breathes new life into these concepts and offers greater protection for what is important.
"As enterprises outline generative AI use cases, the security and privacy of data must be a priority," said Jennifer Glenn, research director, IDC Security and Trust. "Organizations should rethink and prioritize what data is most important to their business and closely control use of that information across all applications of GenAI."
