Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights results from a question posed to 185 respondents and firms with 1,000+ employees across 9 countries and a wide range of industries, as part of IDC's 2023 Worldwide Services Path Survey. The question was: Primary Sourcing Strategy. In situations in which your company/organization would need to utilize a managed SP (service provider) such as Accenture, IBM, Atos, Fujitsu, NTT DATA to manage your assets (e.g., SAP, VMs, containers) on a public cloud provider platform (e.g., AWS, IBM, Azure, Google, Alibaba), which one of the following would be your preferred approach?

This IDC Survey Spotlight then assesses the potential disintermediation of managed SPs' direct relationships with clients by public cloud providers and recommends that managed SPs build a strategy that convinces clients to maintain direct relationships with managed SPs and involves shifting to provisioning of services based on "system centric" value, focusing on multicloud operations, emphasizing "air traffic" control capabilities, and testing potential new channel markets.
