Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation, delivered as a keynote at the Fall 2023 Smart Cities Connect event in Washington, D.C., area, kicked off the large biannual gathering of Smart Cities innovators to frame these technology solutions in a strategic context and provide education on the potential opportunities they may provide.

Certain technologies and tech trends can be discussed on repeat by tech suppliers and the media, and many of them can seem like far-future solutions for state and local government leaders. Digital twins, GenAI, cloud modernization, and non-terrestrial networks are examples of such technologies. However, these solutions are being implemented now and hold tremendous opportunities for state and local governments to use them to address some of their key goals and challenges.
