Abstract
This IDC study looks at the impact that team collaboration applications will continue to have across the workforce, and with a company's partners and customers. Leading enterprises have moved from just text to richer multimodal collaboration that more effectively algins communications with the flow of work. This better informs AI of content based with greater context. IDC defines collaboration as "the interpersonal actions that create value from interacting around shared goals with a presumption that everyone can participate." Collaboration is something people do. The right technologies, especially with an AI-assisted integrated stack of applications, help people scale their abilities and outcomes. Integrations empower those across systems. Over the next five years, IDC expects the team collaboration applications market to more than double in revenue.
"The bridge from the last era to the new digital era is collaborative and augmented with intelligence," according to Wayne Kurtzman, research vice president for Social, Community, and Collaboration Applications at IDC. "Focus not only on internal collaboration but on partners and customers — your core stakeholders. Collaboration is moving from messaging to becoming a more multiplayer platform, using multimodal and visual collaboration. AI "teammates" will assist in the adoption of these intelligent collaborative workspaces to align people and their goals. These platforms will be able to bridge languages, cultures, time zones, and learning styles — and, with permission, companies. Over time, they will create new metrics that will tie the impacts of ideation, creativity, and critical thinking to drive new efficiencies and tie to customer outcomes."
