Abstract
This IDC Market Note dives deeper into one of the more concrete applications for generative AI (GenAI) in sustainability. The incredibly data intense field of industrial agriculture has seen innovation after innovation as this industry is at the heart of many countries' GDP. With climate and crop models utilizing a wide variety of data sets, gathering trustworthy data and creating a single source of truth can be incredibly difficult for farmers. However, with the advent of generative AI and natural language processing models, farmers can generate optimized planting schedules, crop protection measures, and disease and pest mitigation strategies and on average create a much more robust and resilient crop with the use of fewer resources.
