Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2023 U.S. Smart Home Survey, which was fielded in August. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home devices and services, security and privacy concerns, artificial intelligence, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey document focuses on aspects of the survey related to consumer perceptions about digital security and privacy in the home.

"Smart home security and privacy is still top of mind for most consumers, despite the proliferation of devices in recent years," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Smart Home and Office Devices program. "Consumers are often happy to overlook these concerns in favor of the benefits that smart home devices deliver — such as convenience, entertainment, or reductions in household energy costs — but vendors need to ensure that ongoing attention is paid to ensuring that connected devices are secure and protect digital privacy."
