Abstract

This IDC Survey details results from IDC's 2023 U.S. Smart Home Survey, which was fielded in August. The survey asked respondents questions regarding consumer adoption of and attitudes toward a variety of smart home devices and services, security and privacy concerns, artificial intelligence, and smart assistants. This IDC Survey focuses on aspects of the survey related to home automation, monitoring, and control devices and applications.

"As the concept of the smart home has become mainstream across the United States, vendors are increasingly challenged to maintain customer relationships and deliver ongoing value," said Adam Wright, senior research analyst for IDC's Smart Home and Office Devices program. "Survey results indicate that satisfaction with smart home devices increases in the early years of adoption but declines significantly for households that have been a smart home for five years or more. Vendors need to continue to demonstrate value by engaging with customers and helping them simplify their smart home experience and continue to discover new features along the way."
