Abstract
This IDC Survey analyzes the current market for virtual reality (VR) at work in the United States. IDC polled 349 IT decision makers on their experiences deploying virtual reality hardware, software, and services. This includes at what stage they were at with deployment, which hardware they use and plan to use, which brands they use, and who provided their enterprise platform. We also inquired about their biggest challenges, inhibitors, and benefits.
"Virtual reality deployment is moving in a positive direction, moving away from discussion, research, and pilots to actual deployments," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Augmented and Virtual Reality team. "The survey data tells us that interest in VR is high, and that they are looking for more complex and sophisticated solutions to solve their myriad of use cases. Vendors should be prepared to answer their potential challenges and inhibitors and highlight the benefits of efficiency and productivity that VR can bring."
"Perhaps what is most compelling, however, is the cost-benefit analysis," adds Llamas. "Of those participants who conducted such studies, the overwhelming majority (92.0%) said that based on their findings, they would expand the use of VR at work. This presents yet another proof point for vendors when working with potential customers."
