Abstract

This IDC Survey analyzes the current market for virtual reality (VR) at work in the United States. IDC polled 70 IT decision makers on their experiences deploying virtual reality hardware, software, and services. This includes how important they thought certain VR headset attributes were and how satisfied they were with respect to those same attributes.

"Deployment of VR headsets in the enterprise is still very much in its nascent stages, but for those companies that have already taken that first step, reaction to how their needs are being met is critical for vendors to understand better how to position and develop their devices," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Augmented and Virtual Reality team. "The results from this survey are mixed: some of the most important attributes like durability, security, and maintaining a network connection are being readily addressed, while others like price, battery life, device responsiveness, and software vendor support have been lacking."

"VR vendors can use this data to investigate customer priorities, and whether they are meeting those priorities," adds Llamas. "This means two things: how to develop headsets in the future and what partnerships are critical for a successful deployment. Constantly revisiting those two will point to a better experience."
