Abstract
This IDC Market Note provides an analysis of major themes and key announcements from TM Forum's Digital Transformation World (DTW) 2023 event, held in Copenhagen, Denmark, September 2023. The event, using the theme "Ignite," balanced a rosy outlook about future opportunities for 5G monetization with a more urgent tone regarding comms SPs' need to invest now in building the underlying systems that are necessary to avoid missing out on these opportunities.
"DTW23 represented a call to arms for comms SPs. While calling a 'code-red' may have been a little dramatic, the reality is comms SPs do face a real risk of losing out in 5G monetization, like their experience in LTE," says John Byrne, research VP, Comms SP Operations and Monetization at IDC. "The good news is that we are still in the middle of the 5G era, and there are new capabilities coming online such as network APIs and GenAI that can help with monetization, but only if their underlying software support systems are fit for purpose."
