Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight presents new data from IDC's 2023 Future of Operations Survey related to operational data sharing outside of the organization. IDC's broader research suggests that outside services providers, supply chain partners, and other ecosystem participants have an important role in accessing and making decisions based on operational data and should be incorporated into an organization's data governance strategy. Despite these findings, IT and operations staff report varying levels of current use of operational data by outside partners. "The disparity suggests a lot of data sharing outside of IT's defined data governance policies and capabilities and could be a sign of broader misalignment," says Jonathan Lang, research director for IDC's Worldwide IT/OT Convergence Strategies program.
