Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight examines current enterprise and small business perspectives regarding the key security practices for managing SaaS risk. SaaS offers an extremely simplified means for attaining new features and functionality without the need for capital investments in infrastructure or supporting technologies. The rapid time to value of SaaS and the low barriers to adoption have resulted in a loss of centralized IT control over corporate data and employee activities. As the reckless adoption of SaaS continues, new security requirements continue to emerge.

Results from IDC's August 2023Cybersecurity Capabilities Assessment Framework (CCAF) Survey, n = 258, show that organizations are prioritizing the security capabilities of cloud access security broker (CASB) and SaaS security posture management (SSPM). While functionality overlap exists between CASB and SSPM, specific security practices align more closely with one security control or the other.
