"Carbon reporting has been much in the news over the past several years, with organizations under increasing pressure to track and disclose their carbon emissions. While to date carbon reporting has largely been a voluntary exercise, the regulatory landscape is undergoing significant transition. Emerging ESG reporting regulations and standards will change how organizations report on carbon emissions and will increase the impetus to deploy purpose-specific software to support the complex initiative of tracking internal (scope 1 and 2) and external (scope 3) carbon emissions," said Amy Cravens, research manager, ESG Management and Reporting Technologies at IDC.
