Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight explores the use of cloud marketplaces and aggregators by IT service providers, including a focus on the most used marketplaces and the benefits they offer service providers. It includes data from IDC's 2022 Service Provider View Survey. Survey respondents include global providers of cloud and IT services, who were asked if they partner with a cloud service aggregator or marketplace to distribute any of their services and, if so, which aggregators or marketplaces they use.

According to IDC's Service Provider View Survey, 80% of the IT service providers surveyed say that they partner with at least one cloud marketplace or aggregator to deliver one or more of their products, solutions, and services. More than a quarter of service providers use a cloud marketplace operated by one of the hyperscale cloud providers, specifically IBM, Google Cloud Platform, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft Azure. According to Chris Drake, senior research director, BuyerView research at IDC, "Cloud marketplaces benefit both cloud buyers and service and solution providers by streamlining and simplifying the IT procurement process. They also provide an ecosystem where ISVs, software developers, and others can develop and innovate directly on the cloud provider's platform. We expect cloud marketplaces to become increasingly important purchasing vehicles for cloud infrastructure applications, products, and services, especially among line-of-business buyers. This development will continue to create new partnership and sales opportunities for a diverse range of service providers."
