Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation describes the critical drivers — important external forces — that will shape the global business ecosystem and influence enterprise IT and business strategies for the next 12 to 24 months. The 2024 drivers were identified, developed, and reviewed by a cross-functional international analyst team at IDC. This year's document reveals 11 interrelated critical drivers that coalesce around four major themes: emerging tech, macro risks, business models, and people and society. The driver descriptions provide the context and overall IT impact of the disruptive effects of artificial intelligence (AI), automation, economic uncertainty, geopolitics, global supply chain resiliency, cybersecurity, the digital business imperative, everything as a service (XaaS), dynamic work and skills requirements, shifting tech regulation, and the operationalization of environment, social, and governance (ESG) practices. These 11 drivers provide the foundation for the development of IDC FutureScape predictions 2024.
