This IDC Market Perspective provides a preliminary unit shipment range for worldwide hard disk drive (HDD) units by HDD drive class and estimated supplier market share for 2Q23.
"High inventory among the major cloud service providers continues to plague the HDD industry through at least the first several quarters of 2023," according to Ed Burns, research director, Worldwide Hard Disk Drives at IDC. "Weak macroeconomic conditions, customer cloud optimization strategies, and cloud service provider efficiency initiatives are resulting in a slower-than-expected inventory drawdown of HDDs over the near term."
