Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight considers IDC's recent survey on generative AI for development environments published in May 2023. Respondents cited the expected benefits from generative AI to be greatest for software quality and testing, closely followed by security testing and application vulnerability management, and followed by "writing code" third. Given the excitement and enthusiasm around the opportunities for code creation with generative AI pair programming technologies, these survey results underscore the imperative to ensure code quality. In addition, the automated software quality testing market and providers have already been evolving AI and ML capabilities, setting the stage for adoption (with judicious oversight) to gain efficiencies of scale and code quality benefits.
