Abstract

This IDC Survey summarizes the findings of IDC's 3Q23 U.S. Gamer Survey as it relates to PC, game console, and smartphone/tablet gamers' use of platforms like YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, and TikTok. It examines livestreamers' and gameplay video on demand (VOD) creators' and esports tournament players' use of these services/platforms. A review of the PC and console hardware and the mobile networks these individuals use is also included. Year-over-year and contextual results dating back to at least 3Q20 are offered for select questions.

"The survey results showed that YouTube's livestreamed gameplay viewing rate rose particularly quickly year over year. We found that TikTok was surprisingly popular among U.S. gamers and that esports interest and engagement generally increased relative to our 3Q22 survey results, which bodes well for a 2024 rebound." — Lewis Ward, IDC's research director of Gaming, Esports and VR/AR
