Abstract
This IDC TechBrief discusses secure access service edge (SASE) solutions and why it's the right time for retailers to consider implementing SASE or related cloud-based integrated security solutions. While the growing number of and sophistication of cybersecurity threats is a key pain point across industries, retail has additional circumstances that exacerbate the threat. In recent years, retail IT environments have gotten more complex with proliferating numbers of endpoints (i.e., connected devices, IoT) and a greater embrace of cloud, as well as possessing a large remote workforce. The key benefit of SASE, as cloud-based unified networking and security platform, is to enable consolidated security policies that can be universally applied, ensuring a more consistent remote user experience, as well as more consistent threat protection.
"Given the unique set of circumstances that retail faces as a highly distributed industry in today's heightened cyberthreat environment, it is not surprising that retailers are showing higher interest in adopting SASE solutions, seeking more consistent security protection and improved, secure access for all retail workers no matter where they are located," according to Margot Juros, research director, Worldwide Retail Technology Strategies at IDC.
