Abstract

This IDC study shows that telcos are growing their investment in IT systems and network operations with greater coordination across network orchestration, operations, monetization, and customer engagement platforms that will only increase. The growing imperative of profitable monetization will rely on this alignment of focus. The combined telco software solution market will grow from $48.1 billion in 2024 to $55.9 billion by 2028 as telcos invest in the systems that will provide new levels of automation consistent with their commitment to embrace that automation across network- and customer-facing operations.

"Telcos are all, to varying degrees, on board with a future environment in which AI and automation will inevitably take on an increasing role in operations and monetization. However, their ability to leverage this AI and automation will depend on underlying systems that provide them a granular view of their network topology and the ability to spin up and down network resources to support hundreds of new use cases and guarantee that those services are delivered to specifications. On the customer-facing side, AI will enable the ability to revolutionize customer engagements by enabling new insights fueled by a variety of data sources to create new, monetizable customer experiences," said John Byrne, research vice president, Communications Service Provider Operations and Monetization Solutions at IDC. "Most telcos have a lengthy to-do list in modernizing their IT support systems, but the journey to monetizing new network capabilities as they emerge should provide an impetus to double down on these investments now."
