Abstract

This IDC study highlights the new normal of security as a service. A rise of new entrants and ecosystem partners and expansion of offerings by the cloud service providers and managed security service providers and their marketplace vendors taking on common vulnerabilities and exposures along with the advanced persistent threats of nation-states led us to focus on following key themes: identity as the new perimeter, maturing zero trust, generative artificial intelligence, and talent gap.

"There was a traditional security practice tied to a perimeter — secure internal resources from external threats. As digital transformation has accelerated cloud adoption, and remote or branch office work promulgates, which gave rise to practices such as bring your own device (BYOD), this approach no longer applies. For organizations to secure their modern environments, steps must be taken. Reliance on traditional security must be reduced. We now live within a software-defined perimeter and have evolved to where CIOs and cybersecurity practitioners expect holistic security visibility, automated processes, and (recommended) remediation that address the needs of hybrid multicloud," said Philip Bues, research manager, IDC Cloud Security. "The question for organizations now becomes how to optimize spend, time, and resources."
