This IDC study provides vendor market shares for the worldwide semiconductor for networking and communications infrastructure market for 4Q22.
“AI/ML processing, specifically LLMs, is driving new demand and growth for datacenter networking,” said analyst Brandon Hoff, research director, Enabling Technologies: Networking and Comm at IDC. “AI/ML workloads can spend up to 60% of their time in the network, leaving expensive AI processors idle, waiting for data. AI connectivity is a new segment that is driving strong growth in Ethernet switches, Ethernet routers, IPUs, and InfiniBand. A small investment in high-performance AI connectivity can equate to billions of dollars in cost savings.”
