Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight highlights the impact of edge infrastructure on SaaS application design. The mature, successful SaaS provider of the future follows in the wake of network providers, delivering business application services across distributed networks that include the digital core, cloud, and edge environments. Worldwide 2023 spending on edge computing is expected to increase 13.1% over 2022 and reach $208 billion. IDC has identified more than 400 named use cases for edge computing across industries and domains. In terms of spending, SaaS is second to connectivity services. IDC's CloudShare research highlights the growing importance of edge infrastructure for SaaS application architecture. More than three-quarters of SaaS providers believe that increasing customer demand for edge will impact application architecture.
