Abstract
This IDC Market Note provides an overview of Rigetti Computing, Inc.'s updated business strategy. With the implementation of a revised developmental road map, the appointment of new CFO and CTO, and a workforce reduction, this quantum computing start-up hopes to better align resources and business objectives with its nearer-term strategic priorities, specifically the design and development of a noisy intermediate-scale quantum computer (NISQ) that is capable of providing a narrow quantum advantage.
"Because the materials and skills needed to design and build quantum computing systems varies significantly from the fabrication process for classical compute systems, the playing field level has been leveled between quantum start-ups and established vendors," said Heather West, PhD, research manager, Quantum Computing at IDC. "What remains to be seen is whether quantum computing start-ups will have the resources to maintain such a long-term endeavor."
