Abstract
This IDC study defines and provides a framework for analyzing the installed base of storage capacity, the amount of the installed base of storage capacity that is utilized, and the portion of the installed base that is available for storing data for a given year.
"IDC's Global StorageSphere reflects the massive investment made by enterprises and consumers to retain a portion of the data generated in IDC's Global DataSphere," according to John Rydning, research vice president, Global DataSphere at IDC. "This study provides the definitions and segmentations that are used as a framework for analyzing how much data storage capacity exists on different storage media types in a variety of systems and devices, and how much data organizations and consumers are storing."
