Abstract

This IDC study represents a vendor assessment of providers offering risk-based vulnerability management (RBVM) platforms. Using the IDC MarketScape model, we considered RBVM vendors based on quantitative and qualitative criteria that is important to organizations selecting a RBVM platform. The assessment is based on a comprehensive and rigorous framework that includes vendor and customer interviews to evaluate how each vendor stacks up, and the framework highlights the key factors that are expected to be the most significant for achieving success in the RBVM market over both the short term and the long term.

"Vulnerability management is a core function of cybersecurity, but it is often not given as much attention as detection and response. Risk-based vulnerability management platforms help organizations move beyond tracking vulnerabilities in spreadsheets to being able to view and measure the risk exposures throughout their environment and democratizing the knowledge to business leaders outside the security team," said Michelle Abraham, research director, Security and Trust at IDC. "Risk-based vulnerability management platforms are bringing together more exposures, adding additional risk factors and providing more ways to visualize and track risk over time for better proactive cybersecurity."
