Abstract

This IDC TechBrief analyzes how companies can leverage expertise capture on augmented reality for industrial frontline workers. We look at how expertise capture can play a vital role in a company's digital transformation (DX) by preserving the knowledge and best practices amassed by the company's subject matter experts and passing them on to the next generation of novice learners.

"As seasoned subject matter experts age out of the industrial workforce, the knowledge and best practices they have honed through years of experience — most of which are not found inside a manual — are at risk of leaving the company too," says Ramon T. Llamas, research director with IDC's Augmented and Virtual Reality team. "At the same time, there is a new generation of novice frontline workers who are comfortable with and thrive on using technology to learn and excel at their jobs. Expertise capture provides the bridge between the two to preserve, curate, and scale valuable instruction for the Future of Work."
