Abstract

This IDC Market Glance explores the current makeup of the future of work (FoW) technology landscape for the future of work "space/place" pillar, illustrates who some of the players are, and depicts the segments and structure of the market. Space, which focuses on how the work environment must adapt to support the hybrid workforce and work culture, is the largest of the three pillars, accounting for nearly 60% of all FoW spending in 2023.

Driven by evolving work models, organizations are blurring the boundaries between digital workspaces and physical workplaces. Investments in on-premises workplaces and integrated intelligent digital workspaces offering access to data, applications, and key collaborators are on the rise — despite economic uncertainty in 2023. The "space" vendors in this IDC Market Glance represent a growing list of hardware, software, and services providers as well as IaaS and enterprise hardware vendors, as the market is constantly evolving, and companies are emerging with flexible as well as return-to-office policies. As the demand for "reimagined" spaces continues to grow, we can expect to see new players entering the market, growing M&A activity, and existing platforms evolving to meet the needs of employees.
