Abstract

This IDC Survey examines the worldwide monthly technology investment monitor for February 2023. Economic uncertainties forced tech leaders to make difficult IT budget choices in 2023. CIOs and their teams had to choose between delaying some technology investments to keep budgets under control and increasing budgets more than required based purely on business growth or transformation. The second choice is less palatable, as most IT leaders anticipate a recession in the coming year that may force even more aggressive cuts. IDC connected with IT leaders around the world in early 2023 to gain insights into how they are navigating disruptions and prioritizing technology investments across all technology sectors: digital infrastructure, PaaS, applications and SaaS, devices, connectivity, services, and security.

IDC's Global Technology Thought Leadership group conducts a monthly survey (IDC's Future Enterprise Resiliency and Spending Survey) to understand how IT and business leaders in enterprises around the world are assessing risks and addressing cost management for their growing portfolio of technology resources. In the Wave 12 survey conducted in January 2023, IDC asked 1,032 IT decision makers in North America, Asia/Pacific, Europe, and Latin America to indicate how concerns about inflation, recession skills shortages, and other developments affected 2023 budget. We also asked IT leaders to identify which providers would be their most "technology strategic partners" for navigating the next year.
