Abstract
This IDC Perspective examines See What I See Augmented Reality (AR) technologies. The easiest way to understand See What I See is as videoconferencing for frontline workers who need support from a remote colleague. This assistance may be needed when they are working a job in the field, on the manufacturing floor, or wherever the task at hand takes them. With the help of AR — accessed through mobile devices or smart glasses — such remote assistance can help employees more efficiently address issues in real time.
"See What I See AR technologies have been around for years now, but the pandemic has greatly accelerated their usage among many industry verticals that have frontline workers," said Tom Mainelli, group vice president of IDC's Devices and Consumer Research. "If you have frontline workers who often face complex issues that require the costly addition of another onsite employee, this technology should be on your short list to consider."
