Abstract

This IDC Survey provides an overview of the worldwide results from IDC's 2021 Worldwide Managed Services Survey of enterprises involving their use of managed services across applications (e.g., ERP, SCM, CRM) and datacenter IT infrastructure (compute, storage, network) environments. This document offers insight into enterprise requirements that shape the value that managed services need to support and the solutions that managed SPs (service providers) need to develop to meet critical business and IT objectives. Key areas that this document examines include understanding requirements to support key business factors (e.g., driving growth, ensuring business agility and resiliency, meeting sustainability requirements, enabling new business models) and IT initiatives spanning applications and datacenters while providing insight into who are the primary buyers of managed services and what are the key business and technology drivers along with inhibitors that shape decisions in utilizing these services.

This document also provides IDC's essential guidance for service providers looking to compete effectively in the world of managed services. Key areas of advice include developing a value proposition that spans business and IT, aligning strategic partners with service delivery requirements, investing in critical delivery and technology capabilities, and implementing a holistic management structure.
