Abstract

This IDC study uses the IDC TechScape model to provide a systematic assessment of corporate legal technology. The IDC TechScape model is designed specifically to capture progress in the adoption of emerging disruptive technologies, mainstream technology buyer alignment with current industry best practices, and support technologies that promise to deliver operational advantages to organizations that choose to adopt them.

"The legal department is going to continue to be challenged by the hybrid nature and shifting work habits of the rest of the organization. The expansive threat surface, digital-first strategies, and complex entity structure of modern enterprises are tasking legal with new challenges. Legal is responding by operating more effectively by acting more like the rest of the enterprise. Legal operations has arisen by applying business and technical practices to the delivery of legal services. Legal operations is hallmarked by using technology to improve project management, law firm selection, and information governance. Modern legal departments need to develop their own technology stack with the end goal of supporting their departmental move toward legal operations models," says Ryan O'Leary, research manager, Privacy and Legal Technology at IDC.
