Abstract

This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation discusses the need for key performance indicators (KPIs) to show and improve the leadership and governance practices supporting a digital-first enterprise.

Future IT, the foundation of IDC's Future Enterprise, requires leadership ability to anticipate and rise to predictable and unpredictable crises and challenges of today and tomorrow. Readers of this IDC Tech Buyer Presentation will benefit from the definition of five areas used to assess enterprise maturity and guide actions defining and improving the journey to a digital-first enterprise. Example KPIs are given for each of the five areas, both strategic in nature appropriate for the attention of the C-suite and the board of directors and tactical measures to communicate performance to the IT organization and internal customers of IT.

"The basics of CIO leadership of intentional architectural and governance processes while building a productive and innovation organizational culture have never been more important than in the transformation to digital first," says Cora Carmody, adjunct research advisor with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "Traditional KPIs will continue to show a well-governed enterprise and should be expanded to maintain control of the unprecedented volume and type of data that grows as the enterprise digitally matures."
