Abstract
This IDC study delineates effective key performance indicators (KPIs) for measuring what matters to the board in five key areas. Communicating metrics that matter in a ways that sparks meaningful dialogue between the board and the C-suite is an area where CIOs can shine. A CIO who has already used metrics to demonstrate IT's efficiency and effectiveness, contribution to business growth, and support for digital transformation is well positioned to measure the enterprise's progress toward its strategic objectives.
"A proficiency in this next level of reporting shows that the CIO is anticipating the board's needs for a holistic view of enterprise performance," notes Cora Carmody, adjunct research advisor with IDC's IT Executive Programs (IEP). "This CIO is also growing toward a state of board readiness."
