Abstract
This IDC Survey leverages data from IDC's 2023 EMEA Cloud Survey to explore European government sector cloud computing trends across the following themes:
- Cloud value realization
- App/workload modernization
- Industry clouds
- Generative AI
- Digital sovereignty
The analysis is based on the survey of 120 interviews with government executives from 17 European countries.
Governments across Europe are prioritizing the adoption of cloud for their digital projects. However, they diverge when it comes to the approaches they implement, the ways they regulate the cloud market, and the ways they adopt digital sovereignty.
"Regulatory compliance and the need to better leverage data for decision making have nudged governments to prioritize migrating their data storage and analytics workloads and applications. Government-specific or proprietary applications come next in the modernization road map," said Rimal Likhari, research manager, IDC Government Insights.
