Abstract
This IDC Tech Buyer Presentation is one of the keynotes at the 2023 IDC European Utilities Xchange that was held in Vienna, Austria, on May 8 and 9, 2023.
The presentation looks at the challenges and opportunities for European utilities in the area of energy services in general and energy efficiency in particular. It starts by outlining the key role of energy efficiency in supporting the resiliency, security, and decarbonization of the energy system. It then analyzes three key enablers of a functioning energy services market (policies and subsidies, energy prices, and consumer demand), contextualizing them for Europe in 2023, based on the latest IDC Energy Insights research. Finally, it provides a view of the digital tools that support modern energy services. The closing offers IDC's own view of the business opportunity for European energy suppliers in offering integrated portfolios of supply, efficiency, decarbonization, and electrification services.
