Abstract

This IDC Perspective reflects on how the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the ongoing convergence between consumer and enterprise ICT hardware use. The sudden and widespread shift to remote work models led to an emphasis on devices that could facilitate seamless collaboration and productivity in a remote setting while addressing consumer requirements. Based on hybrid work trends and workforce predictions, this document also provides a brief view of how demand for converged products will shape up in the near future.

"With consumer and professional markets continuing to converge, vendors have no choice but to build ICT devices around the entire user journey, encompassing personal and professional use cases," said Mario Lombardo, associate consultant at IDC. "Vendors such as Apple that better incorporate this vision are able to position consumer devices also as day-to-day productivity tools, helping users to make a stronger case for their often costly purchases."
