Abstract

This IDC Perspective explores the essential skills needed to build digital sovereignty (DS) across industries: cybersecurity, data governance, and cloud. We will also discuss the role of education systems and IT training providers in advancing DS strategies around the world. Currently, seeking, implementing, and operating solutions for digital sovereignty is a complex and multifaceted endeavor. Skills related to data, cloud, cybersecurity, and a broad awareness of digital sovereignty principles and guidelines are critical for these efforts and need to be deeply understood before a robust DS strategy can be prepared.

"Across jurisdictions and industries, skill needs and requirements vary greatly," said Leonardo Freitas, research manager and European Skills Practice lead. "This means government and enterprise leaders will need to make targeted, strategic investments to advance digital sovereignty initiatives. Higher education institutions and private IT skills providers are playing, and will continue to play, essential roles in these efforts."
