Abstract

This IDC Market Note analyzes news from Confluent, the commercial company spun out of LinkedIn that shepherds the open-source, real-time data streaming platform, Kafka. It built a new engine from the ground up for cloud, while maintaining Kafka compatibility. Moreover, it added new Data Quality Rules, Connectors, Stream Sharing, and a managed Flink service after its acquisition of Immerok.

"Kafka is one of the most popular event stream processing engines," said Jason Stamper, research manager, IDC's Data Intelligence, Integration and Platforms. "This slew of announcements are a considerable step forward in what the commercial company behind Kafka — Confluent — has to offer customers over and above self-managed Kafka clusters."
