Abstract

This IDC Market Presentation examines the role of SAP ERP systems in organizations based on IDC's phone interviews with 700 SAP ERP customers in December 2021 and January 2022 across 10 countries in Europe, Asia/Pacific, and North America. The objective of this study is to examine how the role of SAP is likely to change as enterprises explore their ERP options. It also explores how sourcing of SAP skills is likely to evolve as part of the modernization process.

"SAP modernization is a key item on many companies' agendas. However, with the majority of companies eager to move away from reliance on a single vendor, the future of role of SAP within their organizations looks set to change, with the majority favoring a transition to a model of platform coexistence. Alongside this shift, companies are also eager to reconfigure their business models around SAP, with implications for internal skillsets and use of external support in the short and long terms," said Ashok Patel, research manager, IDC's European Enterprise Applications.
