Abstract

This IDC study focuses on the revenue, share, and technological development of China's DLP market in 2021. In recent years, China has significantly strengthened the supervision of data security and personal information and is committed to promoting the construction of data security to ensure the security of enterprises and individuals in cyberspace. Data security has become an important supporting tool for ensuring the digital survival of enterprises and the government's digital economic development. According to IDC, the total revenue from China's data security products and services (including the data security segment of the privacy computing and blockchain market) reached US$1.24 billion in 2021. Of this, the revenue of China's DLP market was US$125 million, a year-over-year (YoY) growth of 39.2%. In terms of competitive landscape, SkyGuard, ESAFENET, and Wondersoft ranked among the top 3 in the DLP market in 2021. Among them, SkyGuard had engaged in industries that it had advantages in. In 2021, it performed excellently in industries, such as finance, the government, internet, and manufacturing, and established close partnerships with leading enterprises in the industry, ranking first, with a market share of 23.1%. With profound technical accumulation and rich project experience in the field of data security and a good customer base in multiple industries, such as manufacturing, finance, telecoms, government and enterprises, healthcare, ESAFENET ranked second with a market share of 16.3%. Wondersoft built a lifetime leak prevention product system for users' sensitive data, covering customers in industries, such as finance, government, and telecoms. It achieved rapid expansion of its regional coverage in 2021, eventually ranking third, with a market share of 11.2% (Figure 1).

"In order to reduce the risk of sensitive data leakage, enterprises should first take proactive measures to prohibit illegal access to important business systems through institutional specifications and policy configuration and to implement the principle of least privilege or zero trust access mechanism for sensitive data of enterprises. At present, whether due to legal compliance requirements or actual business requirements, the deployment of DLP products is a direct and effective means for enterprises to defend against the risk of data leakage. The normalization of remote work and the increasing generalization of enterprises' network boundaries have also promoted the continuous growth of market demand for data security products, including DLP products," says Austin Zhao, research manager for the network security market, IDC China.
