Abstract
“The fragmentation of the manufacturing execution system (MES) market has accelerated significantly this year. One type of MES is still designated for large manufacturing enterprises with complex business, with the function developing from manufacturing execution to manufacturing operations. It has more complex and bloated forms and features on-premises deployment. Another type is for small and medium-sized enterprises that have long been neglected by the market, with loose coupling among controlled business, which can be launched within a few weeks at the price of one-tenth of the traditional MES. IDC predicts that software-as-a-service (SaaS) MES will continue to develop rapidly over the next few years, from the current single factory management to collaborative management by multiple production centers within a group, and eventually toward collaboration between upstream and downstream supply chains,” says Yanze Du, research manager for Manufacturing Insights, IDC China.
