Abstract

This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights into technology buyers' adoption drivers and purchase criteria for enterprise application platforms. To transform into digital businesses, enterprises are seeking to leverage the organic capabilities of enterprise application platform (EAP), such as IT infrastructure, enterprisewide orchestration, zero trust security, and AI/machine learning (ML) services, to accelerate building of digital business platforms. In doing so, technology buyers are opting for a new "wrap and renew" approach by building additional layers acting as control planes, comprising workflow orchestration, data pipelines, and intelligence over existing enterprise applications. This approach serves to accelerate time-to-value of platform building initiatives, while improving time-to-market of future digital use cases.

To capture the business transformation opportunities, enterprise application platform vendors providing abstraction capabilities that centralize data models and pipelines, orchestrate cross-functional workflow, and harvest and distribute intelligence across functions, while minimizing impact on existing systems of record, are in the best position to benefit.

The document contains data from the IDC Future Enterprise Resiliency & Spending Survey Wave 4, conducted in May 2023.
