Abstract
This IDC Survey Spotlight provides insights into technology buyers' perceptions about generative AI (Gen AI) adoption, use cases, and functional areas that are most likely to be among the first-moving adopters. In slightly over six months, there will be a swell of technology buyer interest in Gen AI's potential. At the same time, vendors are accelerating investments with a slew of announcements related to Gen AI–based products and solutions. IDC expects that intensifying interest and competition driven by Gen AI will trigger a new wave of "data gold rush" in two fronts: vendor-trained models and AI capabilities based on proprietary metadata-based AI offerings, coupled with AI-augmented data management and data science tools, to help technology buyers looking to differentiate in digital products, services, and experiences leveraging first-party data.
