Abstract
This IDC Perspective examines what is driving mobile network operators (MNOs) to deploy 5G fixed wireless broadband (FWB), its benefits and challenges, utilizing a case study from the New Zealand market where incumbent telco Spark has migrated 30% of its broadband base on to FWB connectivity.
"Mobile network operators across Asia/Pacific can see multiple reasons to deploy 5G fixed wireless access technologies. This can include to compete directly with fixed network providers, to provide better broadband than legacy fixed networks, to improve margins, to cost effectively deploy connectivity into geographically difficult areas, or simply to start monetizing their 5G investment," says Monica Collier, associate research director for Telecommunications and IoT in Asia/Pacific. "Fixed network operators must understand the potential impacts to them and actively defend against churn."
