Abstract

This IDC Perspective examines the state of government digitalisation in Australia and New Zealand and the opportunities for technology vendors to expand value proposition beyond prevailing agency-only approaches. The Australia and New Zealand governments continue in their aspiration to be amongst the world leaders in the global digital economy, and agencies are approaching whole-of-government transformation through inter-agency standardisation, foundational technology reuse, and centralised technology procurement. The goal is to maximise agility with an eye on reducing cybersecurity risks and threats through inter-agency collaboration, proven best practices, and capabilities.

"To capture enlarged opportunities in the public sector, technology vendors must focus on whole-of-government transformation approaches," say Linus Lai, chief analyst, IDC Australia and New Zealand. "This includes helping agencies maximise technology standardisation and reuse so that today's digital investments accrete into future service improvements, more robust cyber defence, and/or seamless administration across multiple government agencies," he adds.
