This IDC Market Perspective discusses the drivers and challenges in telcos' plan for 5G rollout across India.
"Despite challenges, 5G will unlock the next wave of growth for the telecom industry in India, and telcos are well positioned to capitalize on the same," says Nishant Bansal, senior research manager, IDC Asia/Pacific's Telecom Insights. "5G smartphone devices are also expected to become affordable over the next 12–24 months, potentially opening opportunities for accelerated adoption by consumers. While telcos may not be expected to charge a premium for 5G, an increase in tariffs to raise the overall ARPU is very likely in the short term," he adds.
